Lauren Brady
Lauren Brady is currently completing her second year of her Bachelor of Design in illustration and character design at Alberta University of the Arts. In school she is committed to building a skillset in narrative illustration, character exploration and world-building. Lauren’s personal work explores themes that are close to her and many others such as memories, childhood and nostalgia through expressive colour palettes and line-work, simple compositions, and caricaturing familiar subject matter. Her work is a reflection of the long withstanding love she has for all that is camp and kitsch, as well as the huge influence she draws from western cartoons, comics, illustrated children’s books and the many great artists of the past and present who have explored themes of surrealism through their artwork. Lauren completes most of her work using digital programs, however, she also dabbles in traditional mediums such as acrylic, ink and occasionally experiments with applying her designs onto clothing. Her work is intended to serve as an indulgence in the inner child, whose world revolves around limitless imagination, the desire for exploration, naiveté, various morbid fascinations and a tendency towards escapism.
