Olivia with Wild Flowers

Inspired by the photographer Jingna Zhang, "Olivia with her Wild Flowers" is a digital illustration of a dark-haired, red-lipped, woman with large delicate hands. Drawing her hands out of proportion was a personal choice. When I was young I would be teased for my "large hands" or "manly hands". But Olivia's large hands are not rough or "masculine" instead they are beautiful and delicate. When illustrating I think of background stories, and for Olivia her hands are perfect for picking flowers, I can see her long fingers finding the perfect stem of a flower and gently picking it from a field of manly similar stems. But she is observant and knows exactly which flower she desires.
