Caitryn Adair

Caitryn Adair is an emerging artist in her fourth year at Alberta University of the Arts as a ceramics major in Calgary. Caitryn has worked with ceramics as her primary focus in art since 2021, and her functional ceramic work explores themes of playfulness and abstraction, as she enjoys focusing more on visual aesthetics rather than high concepts. She makes pieces that are bright and colourful, bringing more life to the room her pieces are in, and using as much colour as possible. Caitryn takes small moments from the rest of her art practice and makes them into functional pieces that can exist on their own, taking the best parts from her abstract work and isolating them. She creates work in general as an escape from over-thinking, allowing viewers to just see, and choose what they want to feel from the work while also having something visually appealing to look at. Combining her ceramics and drawing practice, Caitryn captivates viewers with layers of her process embedded in the her work. She makes ceramic sculptures, innovative functional ware, and a collection of abstract and figurative drawings and paintings. Her work represents the desire to stay hidden, turning feelings into abstract concepts and focusing more on aesthetics rather than having a clear interpretation.
