Hi, I’m Charlotte! I am a glass artist and recent graduate from the School of Craft and Emerging Media at Alberta University of the Arts. During my five years of study at the institution I fell in love with and embarked on an in-depth exploration of the glass medium. I have since developed two practices based in glass blowing and flameworking, the latter of which I would like to share with you here.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world, my explorations in flameworking focus on the landscapes and changing seasons of the environments around us. Such subject matter provides an extensive pallet of colours and textures to pull from, allowing me to distill their beauty and complexity into wearable pieces of glass art. Additionally, the malleability of hot glass enables me to further capture and emphasize the dynamic and ever-changing qualities of nature, frozen once the glass has cooled. Although I do play with a variety of colours and transparencies of glass, I am drawn specifically to those with reactive qualities. When treated in specific ways, they create unique patterns that in many ways mimic the varying and organic characteristics of rock formations, plant life, skies, and oceans. Such reactions very rarely happen the same way twice, resulting in pieces that are truly unique.
Thank you very much for your visit, and happy shopping!
