My name is Cleo Shedden, and I am a second year Fibre major with a background in painting, particularly with acrylic and gouache. My work is heavily inspired by natural forms, textures, and animals, and I work with a wide and experimental colour palette. I often use arbitrary colour to capture attention and to add interest to places or objects that would otherwise be overlooked. Since immersing myself in the world of Fibre and textile art, my work has become more experimental, and I often lean towards mixed media works. I explore themes of nature, feminism, and gender identity and expression. My goal as an artist is to make textile works that are immersive and allow the viewer to interact with the work, as a driving force in my practice is utilizing the arts to build connections and community. I am of the belief that art is meant for anyone and everyone, and I incorporate that accessibility into my work. I am passionate about arts education and funding, and art as therapy and connection.
