At 40 I had the realization that I am an artist, after so long trying to do other things, I am happy to be on the right path. As I always like doing new things, I am always exploring new mediums and techniques. My favourite painting mediums are acrylic and watercolour since they are fluid and colourful. Recently I have been branching out into craft mediums such as fiber and jewelry-making. My artistic process always begins with colour. I am interested in how colours react to one another. I do not see dark colours as sad, and bright colours are not always happy. It is the experimentation that interests me; it is the journey, not so much the destination. Most of my work is done in bold contrasting colours. Right now I use mostly cool jewel tones with lots of contrast to develop what I call “glow”, an area of light and dark that is a surprise when it happens. I am always happy when the piece surprises me. I hope that I leave enough space for the viewer to bring something to it as art is a communication between the artist and viewer, we each bring something, it is like a dialogue, a nice conversation.
