Research, experiments and varying processes, provides opportunity to conceive and then reveal narratives and concepts. Working in this manner allows investigation of ideas and materials that augment experiences and help define and critique views of cultural, religious, and political ideologies. In accepting that the process of creation has as much (if not more) value as the end product, it becomes difficult to define the value of the artwork as solely a product of an outcome. Some work starts with a planned methodology to create a focused outcome. Other work the process of “making” alters the direction as concepts evolve and unplanned agencies interrupt the intent. Identifying experimentation as an important part of the process helps identify solutions that determine such things as suitable materials, interactive agencies and possible new outcomes or directions. As a society we must become more self-aware and understanding of how we interact with each other. Prejudices, ethical and cultural dissimilarities can impede our future. My art is intended to help us find our similarities, whether it is a question of faith, political views or privacy issues. In the proposition of my work, I am attempting to inspire self-reflection by focusing the viewer’s attention on our similarities while continuing to develop new narratives in art. The direction and content of the work will continue to evolve and change as society changes. Working and reacting to the present will always provide an opportunity for commentary, while understanding materials and agencies will always provide a path in which to do so.
