Welcome! Tanisi! I am Jillian Dolan, and I am entering my second year at AUArts having been accepted into the Illustration program. Returning to school last year after a life-changing accident, I have sought to become a more vulnerable and emotive artist. I have been so grateful for the support of the Indigenous peer mentorship students, my family, and my mature peers as I took this leap. Minority representation and Indigenous cultural knowledge are essential elements of my practice. My work is intimately tied to the land, how we exist on it, how we relate to it, and how we consider its future. I often depict mysterious or fantastical environments, and people, as a path for the viewer to navigate new understandings, methods, and modes of being. I recently moved from a black and white traditional ink practice into fully digital and highly colourful methods of depiction, and I am pleased to offer the results of that learning path to you today. When I am not spending too many hours studying, I can be found creating comics and overindulging my puggle, Butter, with my wonderful partner.
