Mackenzie Roth is a Calgary-based glass artist currently completing her 5th and final year of her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass at the Alberta University of the Arts with a minor in Jewelry and Metals. She uses both of these medias to create an atmosphere of feeling in her work where intrigue and repulsion contest for dominance. Her gallery work explores a void, both psychological and physical where we are faced with the unknowns that exist in the spaces where we cannot – whether microscopic, historical, or within areas of our planet that are uninhabitable by humans. Mackenzie wishes to create an environment – an experience – where the viewers are to face the “world without us” and explore it, and its oddities. It is this way that she wishes to allow viewers entry into the void. Her work creates a sense of wonder and simultaneous unease that captivates and mystifies. Within her production work, the artist creates many one-of-a-kind and custom works with a commitment to providing high quality pieces that you will not be able to find elsewhere with the same handmade touch! The pieces created are curiosities and obscurities that are niche and unique, which are sure to be an excellent conversation starter and statement piece. A great deal of these pieces, especially the sculptural ones, have stories to coincide with the work – so when you buy, you’re buying the rich history and story behind each work as well.
