Kendra is a third-year ceramic student at the Alberta University of the Arts. She is originally from London, Ontario, and moved to Calgary during the Pandemic. During high school, she was introduced to Ceramics and Textiles, which she is currently pursuing. Textiles taught her how to incorporate other materials into artworks. Ceramics allowed her to discover how to incorporate two dimensional features onto three-dimensional forms. Ceramics is a challenge, keeping her on her toes, it teaches her not to hold onto every piece, as it could break at any stage of the creating process. Illustrations are a focus in Kendra’s art practice, whether it is designing the art piece itself or incorporating illustrations, or literally creating an illustration. Kendra’s art practice grows with her, she incorporates herself into every piece, physically, as she is the one creating it, as well as emotionally and mentally. It is somewhat difficult to put yourself into each art piece, especially if you are more of a closed-off person, however, Kendra believes artwork has a personal connection between the piece and the viewer, and that is what makes us, the viewer, like particular pieces of art.
