Nicole Jones

Nicole is an invisibly disabled artist from Northern Alberta. Her work is heavily inspired by her relationship with pain, her body, and the memories it holds. Growing up in a small farming town has inspired Nicole to explore rural imagery that aims to break down masculine vs feminine stereotypes. Alongside this, she has also been exploring themes of growth, decay, abandonment, and nostalgia as part of her ongoing exploration into finding a visual representation of chronic illness. Like an abandoned home, neglected by its owner and left to rot, the healthcare system is leaving millions of chronic illness sufferers without proper care, due to malpractice or simply a lack of research. Through her work, Nicole uses joyful and vibrant colours and patterns to create a voice for those who have been silenced by their illness, in an attempt to break down the stigma that surrounds chronic illness.
