Hi! I’m Terri Lemire, a third year illustration student at AUArts. I moved to Calgary from Saskatoon in 2018 (on the hottest day this city has ever seen) with my kid, husband, and two fluffy old cats. My big loves include children’s books, sketchbooking in crowded spaces (difficult right now, I know), collecting zines, winning backgammon games against my smug husband, soup and sandwich combos, pie, painting, and animating, which was a surprise love affair for me in this last year. My most prized possessions are a mounted and framed piranha named Wesley, the lego Pikuniku my daughter made for me, my collection of enormous earrings, and the ever-expanding bookcase that lives beside my comfy couch. When I finished my BFA at the University of Regina in 2007, my practice was focused on big, beautiful, and colourful abstract paintings that I had to rent a van to move around. These days, both in my class work and personal projects, I’m all about bringing humour, storytelling, fun, and all the joy I can find into everything I do. Most of my work is still really colourful, but it has shrunk dramatically in size as I’ve become more interested in making things that can be held in the hand and welcomed into small spaces, like small books and paintings.
