The Clay Puddle

The simple answer to Juli's practice is joyful making. As the creator of The Clay Puddle, frogs and cute critters are the heart of her work. Every work that she makes is meant to be fun and whimsical.  

Growing up near a wetland and marsh, Juli is thematically inspired by the environments and inhabitants of a pond. She reimagines functional ceramic ware as personified happy beings, using a bright palette reminiscent of party confetti. From cauldrons linking back to a time making “potions” out of leaves and mud, to creating fairy rings out of pretty pebbles and growing plants in the garden; she brings back fond memories of connecting with nature and childhood playfulness.  

Juli sees the material objects one uses in their home as a vessel to convey an emotional journey, from the hands of the artist to the hands of its owners. Within this relationship, she believes having objects in the home that are humorous and fun livens up any environment and rekindles the playful spirit within.
