I am a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Mohkinstsis (Calgary) about to enter my fourth year at Alberta University of the Arts. After working for 24 years as an engineer in Calgary’s oil and gas sector, I decided to explore my creative side and enrolled in art school. I work primarily in ceramics and painting with an emphasis on form and colour. Through the ceramic portion of my practice, I slow down and connect with the world around me. Clay is unpredictable and a great teacher of patience and acceptance. It can take many weeks to transform a humble mound of clay into a beautiful object for the home. No two pieces are the same. Each bowl, cup, or plate reflects my artistic vision, but also elements that I cannot control such as subtle shape and colour variations. This makes each piece unique and personal. With the painting half of my practice, I focus on the influence of society on identity, particularly in reference to the older woman. I challenge stereotypes and highlight the experiences and wisdom older women offer. I am currently a board member at the artist run centre The Bows.
