This piece has a different inspiration, I was taking a MoMA Coursera and one of the artists that was studied was Mark Rothko. I really like Rothko’s work, but I had no idea he had done these wonderful anthropomorphic ribbon paintings. I had to do a piece based on this artist, so I did a pencil crayon one. His work from this time inspired several other pencil pieces. I thought it needed to be more painterly, the drawings were fine, but too small and not as colourful as I wished. It also needed to be a bit bigger than a small sketch book, so on to canvas board and bring out the acrylics. I started out thinking I would try one of the colour field paintings in miniature, that did not last long. It had a good start the background was working well but I felt it needed something more. If I remember I started doing the finished layer and it ended up as a ribbon. Surprise.
