Underwater Oil Painting
Regular price $395.00
The protagonist of this oil painting sinks into the water – where do they end and where does the water begin? My loves of painting and theatre marry wonderfully in the Shakespeare character of Ophelia, whose drowning features in several paintings in art history. This was one of my sources of inspiration for this painting, but I wanted their stare to be one of the most prominent parts of the composition. The protagonist watches the viewer with more than one pair of eyes, their reflection from the water’s surface elongating and distorting it. The water can be a serene or haunting place, and I wanted to capture these different characteristics in one painting with the protagonist perhaps being too at ease.
