Abi Osness
Abi enjoys spending most of their time outside--especially in the mountains--where they draw most of their inspiration from. Always, they have carried a fondness for bugs, and their image often finds its way into the artist’s work. Recently, their illustrations have taken on a theme of celebrating local biodiversity. As someone who spends their summers working with youth outdoors, they carry a passion for sharing knowledge concerning the wonderful aspects of our local environment. Abi stresses the importance of not instilling and reinforcing a sense of fear regarding creepy crawlies, but rather to celebrate how diverse and quite frankly, awesome they are.
Abi creates illustrations both traditionally and digitally, where their products range from prints and stickers to paintings and drawings. They explore different approaches to drawing digitally, challenging themself with their colour use and composition. Their traditional artwork often takes the form of acrylic gouache on wooden panels or pencil crayon on paper. They take inspiration from quilts and patterns, and their abstract image often works its way into their pieces. Abi has worked on pieces both large and small and enjoys painting on surfaces uniquely shaped. They are always eager to discover new ways of creating and will forever strive to find them.
