Arlen has a passion for fantasy and a love for storytelling, always engrossing himself within new worlds and how characters interact within them. His practice explores how visual storytelling can open portals to new places that might influence our understanding of ourselves and our emotions. He admires how the outlandish nature of fiction can compare or contrast with our real lives and experiences. However, the separation between fantasy and reality is an important distinction he tries to make clear through his choice of medium for each piece.
Arlen employs the clarity of ink, the expressive colour of paint, or the uncanny repetition of digital brushes to play with how these worlds are perceived and explored within a 2D space. Without constraining himself to one palette or genre, he explores a variety of content within his work. He seeks to portray a broad range of emotions and experiences within his windows to other worlds.
