Ceyda-Anne Altiok
Ceyda-Anne Altiok is currently in her third year of Illustration at Alberta University of the Arts. Her practice focuses primarily on storybook illustration and information illustration, however she also has a passion for label design, ceramics, mural painting, and editorial illustration work, making her multidisciplinary in her practice. Almost all of her work is connected to nature and animal forms, combined with themes of hope, friendship, and environmental awareness, reflecting a deep connection to the world around us and the creatures in which we share it with. Therefore, the stories she aims to tell focus on community involvement, the environment, growing up, ingenuity, creativity and genuine self expression. Primarily, she works in traditional mediums such as graphite and charcoal while also using digital media to color her work. When working on 3D forms her subject matter is strongly influenced by feminism and spirituality. Tangibility and the space for minor imperfections is something she aims to explore within her ceramic forms regularly, observing how clay can mimic and amplify the experiences of the human body through both pottery and sculpture. Combining the two brings forth two areas of exploration, one being mainly feminist in respecting and celebrating the female body as a vessel for life, while the other explores diversity, ambiguity, and aging.
