Danny Cullum
As an artist Danny’s biggest inspiration is trans identity and representation, he uses personal experience and sentiments from many trans people to create pieces that show the trans body from the trans perspective. His work also focuses on themes of trauma, mental illness, and the impacts of life experiences on the mind and body. Danny often combines themes of queer identity and mental health to represent the intersection between these topics. My experience growing up in rural Alberta is also integrated into my work, as well as my experience of being queer and surrounded by Christianity. Danny’s main medium is ceramics, but he also creates work using printmaking, painting, drawing and fiber. He finds hands-on materials to be the most enjoyable materials to work with. Repetition is another important aspect of his work, especially through carving images, words, and patterns onto pottery, and the carving involved in printmaking.
