From the lens of textiles and the handmade, my practice explores how labour and identity interact with the value of art.
Navigating the common perception of textile art as inferior craft, I engage with the physicality and imperfection ingrained in my processes. Ultimately, I wish to present and celebrate alternative understandings of my medium, unravelling prominent ideas surrounding fine art and craft.
As an age-old vehicle for culture and expression, textiles coincide with the unmistakably human act of creation. Through the familiarity of textiles, I aim to embrace the innate, loving labour of art; honouring the humanity of making.
With a contemplative yet playful tone, I apply weaving, dye, and print to create pronounced imagery, texture, and pattern. At the same time, I emphasize the universality of slow craft and the “DIY”. Through the tactility and function of my works, the mundane becomes a love letter to the human spirit.
