My Art practice primarily encompasses decorative and fashion jewelry making and flat 2D illustrations and paintings. My jewelry creations are inspired by girlhood memories, Lolita fashion, and the Japanese concept of ‘kawaii’, reminiscent of childhood cartoons and their popular characters. By adopting hyperfeminine motifs and symbols in my pieces I hope that viewers are endeared and empowered by the normalisation of stereotypically gynocentric fashion that I believe has come to be infantilised, or trivialised and dismissed in the mainstream media in the past 20 or so years. In my fine art paintings and drawings, I often employ a bold, graphic style that is heavily influenced by the super flat movement that emerged in east Asia in the early 2000s. My work often brings to the fore taboo social topics and highlights the lived experiences of marginalised and racialized people in our society. By tackling serious societal, political, and economic topics through a humorous and lighthearted format, I aim to present fine art as an accessible and widely understood vehicle for social change and commentary
