I am a visual artist raised in Calgary, Alberta developing my artistic practice at Alberta University of the Arts. My practice utilizes ink on paper as well as acrylic or oil paintings. I have gravitated towards ink and obsessive mark-making though using pen nibs as the repetitive process is meditative and allow me to consider the nature of the marks, their emotions and energy are what create the dynamic of the piece. I aim to present the tranquility to the disarray of emotions and their complexity through nature and colour. Topics in my overall body of work address connection, conflict, and belonging. I find myself deeply connected to the beings that represent Canadian wildlife. I find myself especially connected to the white tail deer, and grey wolf. I use them as characters to demonstrate conflict and their temperaments display attributes of individuals I meet or myself personally. I feel as though the animals I witness are the embodiments of my art practice visiting me and calling me back to create. The ecosystem of the Canadian Rockies is something that I envy, the balance of the creatures and their environments holds a certain serenity that I wish to replicate in my own life, with the people I interact with, and the dependency created in these interactions to maintain peace, and how all these relationships are interconnected.
