I gravitate towards materials and processes that enable me to reflect upon physicality, intuition, and process. I allow my intuition and the material to influence my process, because I feel it is more authentic to who I am, and how I function. As a former athlete, physical exertion, such as working with hot glass or hand bending metal are extremely appealing to me when making work. I find inspiration in these processes as they allow me to explore the body in motion and push my physical limitations.
I also explore memories and the influence of family through the physical labour of these processes. Activities such as playing sports and gardening often influence the work I make as they bring up fond childhood memories. I have recently been exploring the meanings of flowers with the hope of using them to further reflect the emotions behind these influences.
My exploration of these themes and materials is guided by my work with process and intuition. This provides me with a space to challenge myself both mentally and physically through the act of doing.
