Abbey Leach

Abbey is an illustrator who works and lives in Calgary, Alberta (Moh’kinstsis). Abbey has always been drawn to storytelling – whether that’s creating fictional worlds or finding a compelling narrative in the events of everyday life. She is currently studying at the Alberta University of the Arts towards a major in Visual Communication Design and a minor in Animation. She works with a range of digital and traditional mediums such as inkwork, pencil, paint, and cut paper. The artist approaches her work with humor and has a penchant for fantastical and supernatural settings which provide a lens for exploring fundamental human themes such as the need for belonging and connection. By pairing the uncanny and unnatural with unsuspecting whimsy or small human moments, she hopes that people will let their guard down and consider the art piece on a human level. It’s thought-provoking pieces like these that fuel her creative passion and her drive to tell more stories.
