Alumni Sample - Pam Vickerson
Pamela Vickerson is a multidisciplinary artist studying as a Drawing major at the Alberta University of the Arts. Her practice explores concepts of attachment & loss, absence & presence, the pro-social emotion nostalgia, and the role of “play” in healing and community. Her concepts are expressed through either abstract or representational painting, drawing, fibre-sculpture, and print. A big part of the creative process includes finding old, once commonplace and now sentimental objects in people’s homes and having conversations about the meaning and memories those objects carry. There is a continuous search for individual history, the trace of human touch, as well as the narrative that is connected to objects and spaces. Whether an old quilt inspires the palette of an abstract painting, or a worn chair becomes the subject of a detailed rendering-- for Vickerson, the hunting and discovery of those objects and the conversations they precipitate is part of the thrill of the creative process.
