My name is Rowan Alejandra, and I am a Calgary-based multimedia artist currently in the First Year Studies Program at the Alberta University of the Arts. I haven’t quite decided my major yet, but I know that I have passion for painting, illustration, and jewelry. In my paintings, I tend to examine what it means to be human and the complexities of emotion, whether through my own experiences or through my observations of others. I find solace in my paintings as they help me not only understand myself but to understand those around me, and I hope that you feel the same way. My paintings confront the mystery of individuality, displaying possible interpretations of the eons-long question of what truly defines a person. I also enjoy making jewelry, especially beaded or layered necklaces. I aim to make aesthetic pieces that convey the wearer’s taste and personality. Many of the beads and charms that I use have been upcycled from unused, found, or thrifted jewelry, so many of my pieces are unique. No matter what medium I use, I put my whole self into creating high-quality artwork that I’m proud to share.
